Although the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has already been postponed till Friday the 20th of July, 2021, there is now a chance that the event may be postponed once again. The chief of the games Toshiro Muto has announced that there is no guarantee that the 2021 Olympics will take place. Due to the uncertainty which has been caused by the international Coronavirus pandemic. Which has caused most countries around the world, to close their borders and to self isolate.
While Muto is still intent on planning for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics to take place, he believes that it won’t be clear whether the Olympics will take place, till early 2021. When it will be evident whether the world is winning the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. Or whether more time will be needed before the world goes back to normal and the Olympics can take place.
Pope Francis holds an Easter service in-front of a virtually empty crowd:
Pope Francis preached his Easter service to a virtually empty crowd in the Vatican. Due to self isolation restrictions and a ban on crowds congregating. However, his service was streamed live to Catholics around the globe. Francis’ key message was for Catholics not to give in to fear in a time of uncertainty.
Inmates set a jail on fire in Siberia:
During a prison riot in Siberia, inmates at Penal Colony No 15 successfully attacked a prison guard and set their jail on fire as an act of protest. Many of the prisoners had also committed acts of self harm in order to protest their treatment by their guards. Many of the inmates claimed that the prison guards would beat them as punishments.
Sweden refuses to go into lockdown:
Sweden is one of the only nations which has suffered from widespread cases of Coronavirus which has chosen not to go into lockdown. While most individuals around the world are unable to go to work or to eat out in restaurants, citizens in Sweden are free to continue living their everyday lives. Sweden has chosen to opt for a herd immunity approach to tackling the Coronavirus and hopes that its citizens will start to develop immunity to the Coronavirus.
However, research around the world shows that individuals who develop a case of Coronavirus and recover from it, do not develop an immunity to the virus and can become reinfected.
UK Prime Minster Boris Johnson begins to recover from his own bout with the Coronavirus:
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now well enough to walk around slowly, after being so ill that he could not sit up in his hospital bed in intensive care.
